Senior Robotics Software Engineer - Oxfordshire

£80,000-£100,000

An exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge robotic technology and play a key role in shaping the future of intelligent automation. Arden Resourcing is working with an innovative technology business looking to appoint an experienced Senior Robotics Software Engineer to join its growing engineering team. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, developing sophisticated software and seeing their work come to life in real-world robotic applications. You'll be involved in creating intelligent, autonomous systems, taking ownership of key software developments and helping establish the technical direction of future projects. Working alongside specialists across software, electronics and mechanical engineering, you'll help deliver high-performance robotic solutions that are robust, scalable and ready for real-world deployment. The position would suit an experienced engineer who combines strong hands-on programming skills with a broader understanding of robotics, system architecture and technical leadership.

The Role

You'll play an important part in developing and improving the software behind advanced robotic platforms, with responsibilities including:

  • Designing and building sophisticated robotics software, covering areas such as autonomous navigation, environmental awareness, movement and control.
  • Taking projects from initial concepts and proof of concept development through simulation, testing and deployment into operational environments.
  • Developing efficient, maintainable software capable of supporting complex robotic applications.
  • Working closely with hardware, electronics and mechanical engineering teams to ensure seamless integration between physical systems and software.
  • Improving software reliability, performance and maintainability through structured testing, peer reviews and engineering best practices.
  • Providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers and supporting their professional development.
  • Contributing to software architecture decisions, future technology planning and wider engineering strategy.
  • Investigating new technologies, development tools and approaches that could improve the capabilities and performance of robotic systems.

Skills & Experience

We're interested in speaking with engineers who have a strong technical background in robotics and experience delivering complex software solutions.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of commercial experience in robotics software engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Strong programming ability in C++ and/or Python, with experience developing software for complex engineering applications.
  • Practical knowledge of robotics algorithms, particularly in areas such as perception, SLAM, autonomous navigation, motion planning or control systems.
  • Experience working with ROS or ROS2 within robotic software development environments.
  • Familiarity with real-time software development and robotics simulation tools such as Gazebo or NVIDIA Isaac Sim.
  • A good understanding of core robotics principles, including kinematics, dynamics, sensor integration and sensor fusion.
  • Experience contributing to or leading technically demanding software projects from development through to delivery.
  • The ability to work effectively with engineers from different technical disciplines.

The Person

Beyond the technical skills, we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys engineering challenges and wants to make a meaningful contribution to the development of advanced robotic technology.

  • You'll be comfortable taking ownership of difficult technical problems, exploring different approaches and finding practical solutions.
  • You'll also be someone who can see the bigger picture, understanding how individual software components contribute to the performance and reliability of an entire robotic system.
  • Strong communication skills, a collaborative approach and the confidence to influence technical decisions will be important.
  • Most importantly, you'll have a genuine interest in robotics, automation and intelligent systems, alongside the ambition to help develop technology that pushes the boundaries of what's possible.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This position offers the chance to work on technically challenging robotics projects where your ideas, experience and engineering decisions can have a direct impact. You'll have the opportunity to contribute across the full software development lifecycle, work with engineers from multiple disciplines and play an influential role in the development of increasingly sophisticated autonomous systems.
